WHY

The COVID-19 pandemic severely disrupted the global value-chains and made us redefine “normalcy”. It is time for consumers, producers as well as stakeholders to change our way of life, our way of work, and refine our purpose. Sustainability and green & circular economy have attracted global attention. Humanity has been developing technologies to improve our lives. The consequence of technology adoption has also caused damage to our planet and human health. However, if we focus our purpose on technology development and adoption for the sustainability of the planet and people, we can repair the damages made and build a sustainable future.

WHAT

STEAM Platform Empowers the youth with the purpose of sustainability, Promote leadership, Nurture entrepreneurship, and Build Partnerships.

We launched the Circular Economy Accelerator Program (CEAP) at the Knowledge Xchange for Innovation Center (KX) in Oct. 2020 in partnership with NXPO and KX. Our first 6 months of activities focused on mapping the Thailand circular economy ecosystem and promoted business leadership practices. We kicked off our CE Leadership & Partnership (CELP) Platform with the inaugural CELP Summit 2021 co-organized with NXPO, UNEP, and KX during 17-18 March 2021. In March 2021, we signed a membership agreement with The Incubation Network, to synergize our efforts in solving plastic pollutants on our planet.

HOW

The 4th Industrial revolution (I4.0) coupled with Circular Economy so-called Smart Circular Economy is anticipated to cause a paradigm shift in current production and consumption practices. Both Industry 4.0 and the Circular Economy seek to improve products and processes and optimize resource usage to improve efficiency and minimize waste, consequently minimize negative environmental impact.

STEAM Platform focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) knowledge coupled with Life Cycle Thinking mindset, powered by entrepreneurship skills. It empowers the youth in developing smart solutions to accelerate the transformation of a circular economy.

The efforts to accelerate the smart circular economy movement are gaining significant momentum in the post-COVID world, where technological innovations led by youth leaders are imperative to save the planet and sustain humanity. The adoption of digital technologies such as IoT, Big Data, Robotics, AI enabling Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Microbial Technology, and other related technologies with a life cycle thinking mindset is vital in reviving the true essence of planet earth. Furthermore, cross-sector collaborations in food/agriculture, packaging/plastics, building/construction, energy/environment, textile/fashion, and medical/healthcare with closed-loop value-chains are equally critical for the transformation of the current linear economy towards the smart circular economy.

STEAM Platform, since its inception in 2018 at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) has coached/trained young innovators in multi-disciplinary areas focusing on knowledge convergence, skills & mindset shift, entrepreneurship, and strategic communication, and impacted globally via digital means. We are currently based at Knowledge Xchange for Innovation Center (KX) in Bangkok leading the 1st Circular Economy (CE) Accelerator of Thailand to train and empower young innovators to contribute to the global CE movement. Our customized training programs foster youth leadership in technology innovations, strategic communication, entrepreneurship, and partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region and globally for circular economy transformation.

STEAM Platform, in association with global governing bodies including ADB, European Union, the World Bank, UN agencies, and others, is exploring partnerships for capacity building of youth and solution development adopting smart circular economy practices to co-develop innovative solutions towards sustainable development goals (SDGs) 2030.

STEAM Platform offers internship programs for ASEAN and International students to acquire trending skills in I4.0 and CE through experiential and peer-to-peer learning. Within a span of fewer than 3 years, we have trained hundreds of young innovators in partnership with KMUTT, other leading Thai Universities, and global bodies such as ADB, UNDP/UNEP, The World Bank, and more.

Our program involves events (seminar, workshop, hackathon, conference, etc), strategic communication (internship and training events) both physically & digitally, and the production of leadership content through video, animation, and infographics. We are the leading smart circular economy platform in the Asia-Pacific region fostering youth leadership and working in close collaboration with educational institutes, R&D leaders, financing institutions, governments, and startups/SMEs/businesses for CE transformation. Our leadership program focuses on how to bring citizens of this planet together to repair the damages caused by human production and consumption; to change how we live and how we make things to minimize the negative impact on our planet; to create new business opportunities in driving the new green economy forward globally. Our program involves experiential learning on both technical and soft skills through the STEAM Platform internship program available for students and new graduates. We also conduct strategic communication, topical technology workshops, hackathon & entrepreneurship training sessions for a mixture of STEM and non STEM students. All our internship and training programs involved sustainability, green/circular economy, and SDGs as a purpose.
