Biography
Hiromichi Katayama has been working as a UNESCO education specialist. With over 25 years of experience, he has worked extensively in the fields of skills development for employability, teacher education, science education and learning assessment across Asia, Africa, the Americas, the Middle East and Europe. His professional background includes roles at UNESCO (including the UNESCO Institute for Statistics), OECD, the World Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Recently, he led the development of regional skills development initiatives in East and West Africa. He has also overseen the production of various analytical reports on education and lifelong learning, as well as on data analytics and the use of labor market intelligence to inform skills development policies. He holds a PhD in international comparative education from the University of Pittsburgh (USA), and a Master’s degree in economics from Kobe University (Japan).
