Biography
Supapan Seraphin is a University of Arizona (UA) Distinguished Professor Emerita, a Faculty Fellow, and a Professor in Materials Science and Engineering Department. She had joint appointments in College of Optical Sciences and in Department of Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering. Currently, she holds a senior advisor position at KMUTT and NSTDA in Thailand. At NSTDA, she is a mentor at the Professional Authorship Center (PAC) helping and guiding researchers on writing manuscripts, proposals, and scientific communication. She was the Director of Electron Microscopy Facilities for Materials Research at UA during 1990-2013. She spent 18 months at Kyoto University under a Monbusho scholarship during 1985-1987. Her major research projects included carbon nanotubes, silicon-on-insulator, various ceramic and magnetic nanoparticles, mining materials, and current issues in materials conservation. She received an Outstanding Teaching Award in 1997, Award for Excellence at the Student Interface in 2001, 2002, 2009, and 2014; College of Engineering da Vinci Award; and an Excellent Faculty Award from the Women in Science and Engineering in 2009 for her dedication to mentoring and increasing diversity. She was a 2012 Fulbright scholar teaching and research in Thailand. In 2015, she was a visiting professor at MTEC.
