Biography

Prof. Tukker is a global leader in Life Cycle Assessment, Material flow analysis, Environmental Input-Output analysis (IO), and a highly cited researcher in sustainability. He is recognized as one of the top ten best economists and Finance Scientists in the Netherlands. His work in the field of sustainable business models is among the highest cited globally.


Prof. Tukker established prominent EU projects in the fields of sustainable product design (SusProNet) and sustainable consumption and production (SCORE!).


He was a core member of the 10 Million Euro Dutch Knowledge Network on Sustainable System Innovations. He coordinated a series

of major projects worth approximately 15 million Euros with over 20 key European research institutes constructing the world's most ambitious and detailed global energy/resource/economic input-output databases and models (EXIOBASE).


Despite working until fall 2013 outside academia, he authored 6 books and over 220 refereed papers (h-value 79/34000 citations in Google Scholar; h-value 60/17500 citations in Scopus) and delivered over 100 invited speeches at international conferences.

He served from 2013 to 2022 as Scientific Director of Leiden's Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML), a globally leading institute in Life cycle assessment, Material flow analysis, and Environmental Input-Output analysis (IA). He currently is President of the International Society of Industrial Ecology, the key scientific society in this field.
